Oh, My Darlin’

So I have this “3,650 Things to Be Happy About” desk calendar that gives me 10 things to smile about each day. This calendar OBVIOUSLY already knows me because yesterday one of the items was “peeling citrus fruit.” You don’t even KNOW what joy this brings me … but more about that later. You might already know that I'm bananas for bananas, but I LOVE when clementine season rolls around. Keep in mind, clementines are not just small versions of regular old oranges; they differ from regular oranges in many ways are actually a type of mandarin. (Funny thing, my dad used to call me his little Amandarin when I was young.) According to the Cuties site, there are 114 days remaining in their clementine season — PLENTY of time to sustain my current addiction.

I begin each day with two or three of these little babies, and I’m good to go! According to today’s Hungry Girl email, Vitamin C helps your body burn fat more efficiently. I can’t think of a better way to kick start the day! I usually have a packet of oatmeal or a VitaTop a bit later in the morning, which keeps me goin’ strong until lunch.

I’m a pretty competitive gal, and I often make up games just for myself. My current challenge is to peel every clementine in ONE piece. I’m a winner so far this year! I’ve gone through a few boxes and haven’t messed up yet. Try it. It's neat.

Here’s some of my work:

Yes I’m a total dork, but what can you do? I view each little clementine as a challenge, and I won’t accept defeat. NEVAAAAAH!

The most readily available clementines around here are the Cuties brand, but I know there are others. I really like the stickers on the Cuties, though :)

In case you can’t see it, this one reads, “Root for the Cute.”
How precious.

Top 5 Reasons I Love Clementines
(and why you should, too)

  1. They are super sweet — taste and cool-factor wise.
  2. They are FUN and easy to peel.
  3. They are seedless. Seedy things gross me out.
  4. They are snacktastic.
  5. Their small size makes them convenient to take anywhere.

Now go get yourself some clementines and have a superduper weekend!

Peace and Love, Amandarin

  3. Citrus fruit is definitely the best thing about winter. And those are some impressive peels! I was just thinking about how I should post that I've eaten and ENTIRE thing of Clementines in two weeks. My dad gave me a box for xmas (cause, you know, they can be a bit pricey...). Anyway, love them too!

  4. I love clementines. Closest thing to satsumas when it's no longer my beloved satsuma season. Plus, you can't go wrong with such a cute logo!

  7. Love this post! I was JUST considering buying me some clementines today after seeing they are sale!! I worried that the peeling would be hard like oranges (it's why most of my oranges go bad...I HATE peeling them). Guess I'll try and make a challenge out of it myself! Sounds FUN!!!! Thanks for the GREAT post!

  8. Oooh I do that with my oranges too (the peeling in one piece thing). I've gotten pretty good at it with practice. Oddly enough, citrus fruits make my face sweat when I eat them, but I still love 'em. Though my fave fruits have to be honeycrisp apples. Have a great weekend!

  9. If you sign up on the cuties website they will email you coupons...we bought a bag at cub this week for $3.17 not bad! :) And my daughter loves these (she's four) because she can peel them herself!

  10. Wow, you are just as obsessed with clementines as my toddler! :) He LOVES them. Actually, he loves everything about them, from peeling them (in 1000 pieces, not one piece!), smelling them, to eating them. In fact, if I let him, he would eat them all day long...

Enjoy your clementines for the next 100 days or so! :)

  11. There is a cutie sticker game you can play on the cutie web site, but it is as addictive as the cuties themselves. Took me 3 days to get to level 10.

  12. Hmmm....may have to give these a try. I've always been iffy on oranges (don't like the white stuff) but I like ruby red grapefruit... so I'll look for them on Sunday at the grocery, just for you. :)

  13. here's another reason to love them: i can peel them by hand without getting my hands all sticky and gross! i love navel oranges but it's like a battle to get in there...depth charges... push the pips into bits they wouldn't expect... http://www.auntiemomo.com/cakeordeath/DAtranscript.html#das

  16. I LOVE clementines, and this post rocks! My favorites are Cuties. I recently found out that not all clementines are created equal because I bought the Sweetie brand last time, and they had SEEDS! I didn't even know that was possible. I was quite peeved.
